چکیده

We have studied the radial distribution of the early (E/S0) and late (S/Irr) types of satellites around bright host galaxies. We made a volume-limited sample of 4,986 satellites brighter than Mr = −18.0 associated with 2,254 hosts brighter than Mr = −19.0 from the SDSS DR5 sample. The morphology of satellites is determined by an automated morphology classifier, but the host galaxies are visually classified. We found segregation of satellite morphology as a function of the projected distance from the host galaxy. The amplitude and shape of the early-type satellite fraction profile are found to depend on the host luminosity. This is the morphology-radius/density relation at the galactic scale. There is a strong tendency for morphology conformity between the host galaxy and its satellites. The early-type fraction of satellites hosted by early-type galaxies is systematically larger than that of late-type hosts, and is a strong function of the distance from the host galaxies. Fainter satellites are more vulnerable to the morphology transformation effects of hosts. Dependence of satellite morphology on the large-scale background density was detected. The fraction of earlytype satellites increases in high density regions for both early and late-type hosts. It is argued that the conformity in morphology of galactic satellite system is mainly originated by the hydrodynamical and radiative effects of hosts on satellites.

The effect of variation of stellar dispersion velocities by the galactic latitude in interpreting gravitational microlensing observations

Our galaxy is a spiral galaxy and its stars are mostly in a thin disk and rotate around the galactic center. The vertical component of the dispersion velocity of stars is a function of the galactic latitude and decreases with increasing it. In the galactic Besancon model, this dependence is ignored and they just consider the dependence of dispersion velocity on the stellar age. Becanson model i...

Properties of Galaxy Groups in the SDSS: I.– The Dependence of Colour, Star Formation, and Morphology on Halo Mass

Using a large galaxy group catalogue constructed from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS DR2), we investigate the correlation between various galaxy properties and halo mass. We split the population of galaxies in early types, late types, and intermediate types, based on their colour and specific star formation rate (SSFR). At fixed luminosity, the late (early) type fraction of galaxies increas...

The environmental dependence of the structure of outer galactic discs in STAGES spiral galaxies

We present an analysis of V-band radial surface brightness profiles for spiral galaxies from the field and cluster environments using Hubble Space Telescope/Advanced Camera for Surveys imaging and data from the Space Telescope A901/2 Galaxy Evolution Survey (STAGES). We use a large sample of ∼330 face-on to intermediately inclined spiral galaxies and assess the effect of the galaxy environment ...

Radial mixing in the outer Milky Way disk caused by a low mass orbiting satellite

Using test particle simulations we examine the structure of the outer Galactic disk as it is perturbed by a low mass satellite in a tight eccentric orbit about the Galaxy. A low mass satellite of mass a few times 109M⊙ can heat the outer Galactic disk, excite spiral structure and a warp and induce streams in the velocity distribution. We examine particle eccentricity versus the change in mean r...
